Cold, dry, fast, efficient and effective.
Introducing a new paradigm for food and beverage sterilization

THE MARKET CHALLENGES:

Effective sterilization methods play a critical role in the aseptic manufacturing process, requiring food and beverage manufacturers use only proven, highly effective processes. Hydrogen peroxide and paracetic acid have shown themselves to be effective processes, however they have limitations. Both of these chemical methods are limited by a narrow process window, have limitations on speed and heat, produce residuals, consume utilities, and create a large footprint. High capital costs, combined with the high maintenance, spare parts, and operating costs, make sterilization a large component of an aseptic bottler's expenses.

Decades of research and commercial use have proven that electron beam technology is a safe and effective method for sterilization. However, conventional electron beams systems are large, expensive and complex to maintain, making them impractical for use in many packaging applications. As such, a more cost-effective, compact approach to electron beams is required.

THE SOLUTION:

Advanced Electron Beams (AEB) has emerged with a new paradigm, making electron beam usage a viable alternative to traditional approaches with a compact, low-voltage, in-line electron beam technology. Advanced Electron Beams offers distinct advantages for use in sterilization processes, including:

  • High kill rate: capable of 10-6 microbial kill rate in milliseconds at room temperature
  • Small footprint: requires half the footprint of alternative approaches
  • Reduced operating cost: >50% reduction in operating cost possible
  • No chemical residue or waste
  • Room temperature process: critical for PET and films

THE BENEFITS:

Advanced Electron Beams' compact, cost-effective electron beams readily can be integrated into in-line production systems for food and beverage aseptic packaging sterilization. This approach enables fully automated production with the highest possible sterility assurance levels, helping manufacturers reduce their risk. As a result, AEB Emitters can be leveraged in high-value applications such as:

  • Aseptic filling of PET bottles
  • Aseptic filling of pouches and paks
  • Bottle cap and closure sterilization
